A lot of people have been asking how to play or run Roblox on Chromebook, and if it’s even possible.

• Roblox is easily available on the internet and you can easily download and install it on your device from various sources and even chrome book too. It is actually an online set of worlds which include virtual Lego-like kits so as to make it very exciting to play along with different types of age groups.
• Contrary to popular misconception, Roblox is now available on Chromebook and can be easily installed through the Google Play Store. First, you need to enable Play Store from Settings and you are good to go. Next, click on this link and install Roblox on your Chromebook.

Go to the Quick Settings Panel at the bottom right (where the clock is), then click the Settings icon. Scroll down to Google Play Store and turn it on. Read and accept the terms of service and that’s it – the Play Store is active. Now, you can download and install Roblox from the Google Play Store.

It seems most of these folk are from the Minecraft crowd, and I can see the relationship since both games are highly imaginative, yet different in their own ways.

It’s a very popular game that’s currently available on multiple platforms- PC, Mac, iOS, Xbox One, Android, and a few Amazon Devices.

This guide was written for people just like you and will answer all your questions.

What’s Roblox?

If you don’t know what Roblox is, it’s basically a community-driven virtual world.

It’s a user-generated MMO with a social aspect. It’s not the first of its kind, but it does have its own unique touch.

It’s like a mix between Minecraft and Second Life.

It’s heavily based on building, exploring, crafting, resource gathering, and also combat, to name a few.

There’s also an emphasis on character customization. You can dress your virtual character using different gear, clothing, hats, head shapes, and more. There’s also a trading system as well.

Compared to games like Minecraft, Roblox is much more social and is a social game. You can add friends, groups, and even get followers.

Roblox does have a premium membership, which offers more features to paying players.

Roblox and Chrome OS

You probably already know about all that if you’re reading this guide.

Since Roblox is a very popular game, it makes sense that people want to play it on their Chromebook.

This guide will teach you a few methods to attempt to get it running on your laptop, but there are no guarantees. Some have had success making it work, others can’t even get the game to install.

There are few methods floating around on the ‘net that supposedly teach you how to run the game on a Chromebook, but I found most of them to be outdated and not working anymore. It’s a gray area

If you really like the game, I suggest you try out whatever you can to play the game.

After all, if you’re here you’re probably a hardcore fan, so try ’em out.

Then comes the main question – how do I run Roblox on Chromebook?

I’ve decided to scour the entire Interwebs to find a definite answer.

I found a whole bunch of guides, tutorials, and videos that promise they work, but they don’t according to the people who’ve tried them.

Then, I came to the conclusion that it’s not as easy as it sounds.

That’s probably what you didn’t want to hear.

But with the limitations of Chrome OS, that seems to be the case. Unless you’re very good with computers, you probably won’t be able to get it working.

However, it’s not impossible. There have been players who’ve gotten the game to work successfully. It’s all over YouTube and you can easily see it for yourself.

So, can you play Roblox on a Chromebook or not?

Yes, and no.

You probably don’t like this answer since now you’re probably confused, but let me explain.

Roblox can be run on Chromebooks, which runs Chrome OS, but only with a lot of hacking and tweaking. Even if you manage to get it to work, it’s not really playable since it’s super laggy and doesn’t run that well.

Here are some popular methods that people have used to run Roblox on their Chromebook (although they may not work as of now, you need to find an updated method that’s still practical):

1. Use Browserstack and emulate

Browserstack is basically a browser-testing utility for Chrome.

Using this, it’s possible to run Roblox, but it’s constantly being patched by Roblox themselves as they change the code of the game for security and such.

Even if you manage to get it to work, it’s still very lag-like and runs poorly on Chromebooks. You can still get this working, but it’s not really playable because of performance issues.

2. Use the Chrome Remote Access app

This is a method of using a Windows-based computer to run Roblox while you play from your Chromebook remotely.

You’ll have to use the Chrome Remote Desktop app from the Chrome Web Store.

This works, but you need to have a computer available and constantly online so you can connect to it on your Chromebook. This is only useful if you’re away at school or work.

Otherwise, you might as well just play on your Windows computer. The quality is decent, but there’s still lag issues.

Note that you’ll need to have a powerful Windows PC along with a fast internet connection to make the game playable.

3. Use Crouton and install Linux

This is the most popular method by far, and from what I’ve read, it used to work.

You basically enable Developer Mode on your Chromebook and then install Crouton to allow a distro of Linux to be run on your laptop.

Then from here, you install Wine, which allows you to run Windows-based programs, and then from there, you can run .exe files (which allows you to run Roblox and install it).

This method worked with decent success, however, it seems that Roblox has also patched it or the game runs extremely slow and has some performance issues that make it unplayable.

4. Use the Play Store version of Roblox

WOOT. I think we finally have a working method now that works for anyone with a newer Chromebook.

In case you didn’t know, Chrome OS is now capable of running Play Store apps. In other words, many Chromebook models can now run Android apps and games– including Roblox.

The update is commonly referred to as the “Play Store update” or the “Android app update” in the Chrome OS community. It’s slowly rolling out to more and more Chromebooks.

There’s only one issue: only select models will get the update.

As of now, more and more devices are able to directly install the game and run it through the Play Store setup. All Chromebooks made in 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020 and beyond should have the ability to install the game just like any other app and run it.

Your laptop will have to have the update installed to get the game to run

Here’s how to find out if your specific Chromebook will get the Android update:

• If you have an older Chromebook and you don’t have the update yet, you can check out this update schedule to see if and when you’re going to receive the update.
• If you have a newer Chromebook (made in 2017 and beyond), you likely already have the update pre-installed.

If you have an older laptop and it’s on the list to receive the update sometime in the future, you can easily force the Android update now so you don’t have to wait.

If you have a newer laptop you probably already have the update, so you can try this method right now and get your game on.

If you have the Play Store already installed

Then you’re pretty much good to go.

But there’s just one thing you should know:

The whole Play Store on Chrome OS thing is still very primitive.

It’s widely in beta testing and still undergoing a lot of development. There are a lot of apps and games that crash, freeze, lag, or simply don’t work or aren’t compatible on a Chromebook.

Remember, these Android apps were designed for a smartphone. You’re basically porting it over to a laptop. There’s going to be major hardware changes, so that’s why not everything will run smoothly.

Over time, the integration will improve. Google is working on it. So don’t be afraid if you can’t really play the game smoothly or if it has problems running. It should improve with time.

If you don’t have the Play Store update

Here’s how to play Roblox on your Chromebook using the Play Store:

Step 1: Launch the Play Store

If you don’t know how to access it, press the Launcher key (magnifying glass on your keyboard) and look for “Play Store” or simply search for it.

Again, if you don’t have access to it yet, you can force the update.

Step 2: Find the game

After the Play Store is open, go ahead and search for the game using the search box.

Or you can install the game directly from Google Play here.

Step 3: Download and install the game Roblox

You can install the game here, or you can go ahead do a search.

After you’ve found it, click the big “Install” button.

Roblox will then install onto your Chromebook. Sit tight.

Step 4: Launch the game

After it’s done installing, just launch Roblox and it should start.

Don’t expect the game to run smoothly

Depending on your Chromebook and the current version of the game, you may or may not be able to run it successfully.

Freezing, lagging, crashing, framerate drops, and even the game not starting are all common issues. If the game isn’t available for your device, you’ll have to sit tight and wait for an update.

Again, this is due to the fact that running these games on a Chromebook is still a work in progress. It should improve with updates.

If you have a newer laptop, it should be much better suited to run the game. Modern Chromebooks have better specs (processor, RAM, and storage) compared to older ones. They’ve come a long way.

A lot of newer ones also have touchscreens and the ability to convert into a tablet, which may make the game a lot more enjoyable since it was built for touchscreens on the Android version.

Update: In 2019, it seems like the Play Store version of Roblox is slowly rolling out to more people.

This is good, but the game is riddled with lag, cursor problems, and unmoveable avatars. As the service gets better over time, we should start to see a working version of the game that’s compatible with Chrome OS! Right now, it’s easy to download the game, but playing it is a whole different story. But if you need to get your game on, why not just give it a try?

Can’t look around?

This is another common complaint about the game after downloading it. Some players have reported that they can’t look up and down, or sometimes side to side.

It’s as if the game doesn’t detect their mouse cursor so they can’t move.

I’m still collecting data on this as some people can play the game without any problems, while others are plagued by this input control problem.

If you download the app and you’re also unable to move or look around, please leave a comment detailing your Chromebook model. This will help find a solution!

Remember that the Play Store is still very much in beta, so we can’t expect a perfect transition! But I imagine that over time, this should improve and fix many of the input problems.

Getting the “not compatible with your device” or the “your device is not compatible with this version” errors?

Some readers have emailed me saying that they’re getting one of these errors when they try to look up the game and install it from the Play Store.

It seems to be a common issue for many readers trying to install the game from the Play Store.

It seems like for some people, they have no issue installing the game. Whereas for others, they aren’t able to add the game to their Chromebook from the Play Store because it throws an error that says it’s not “compatible” with their device. Another common error is “your device is not compatible with this version.”

Since the whole Play Store on a Chromebook integration is still a relatively new program (it’s still in beta testing), you shouldn’t expect it to work perfectly and be compatible with every single device. The platform is being improved and updated constantly so as time goes on more and more models should be added to the list of “compatible” devices for running the game.

With time, it should improve and eventually your device may get access to the game.

As Google improves the integration, we should expect a larger pool of devices to be able to run Roblox! We just need to be patient and give it more time to improve.

However, if you’re one of the few players that can download and install the game, be thankful (even if the game doesn’t run perfectly) as there are many who can’t. I expect with time the game should also improve and run a lot smoother on a laptop.

There are other methods- but they’re outdated

Besides these few methods, all other methods online seem to be pretty iffy or unworkable.

If you decide to use one of these methods to get Roblox up and running, be sure to do research on it and see if you find a working version that’s been updated and still works since most of them used to work, but not anymore.

Newer methods are constantly being found and released by the community.

So, you can run Roblox on Chromebooks, but…

Well, that’s why I said “yes and no.” Roblox can be run on Chromebooks, it’s definitely possible, but it requires hardcore tweaking and hacking only to end up with a result that’s laggy and semi-playable.

If you know what you’re doing, I say go for it. If you’re not sure what you’re doing and don’t want to risk screwing up your Chromebook, I’d say sit this one out.

Perhaps contact Roblox and ask them to make a version that runs with and is fully compatible with Chrome OS?

It’s a long shot, but many companies now are making their games compatible with cloud-based versions that run in the browser (also known as “lite” versions). Or if you really like Roblox enough, you can try whatever you can until you get it to work. Just understand that you may seriously mess up your Chromebook.

You can also try looking up guides on any of the methods above- but look for feedback or comments that prove the guide works.
